Brief Summary of the Article:
The majority of the population are Orthodox Christians. 98 percent to be exact. As of right now they belong to the Russian Orthodox Church, but there is debate because priests play important roles in rituals. The Orthodox calendar dictates celebrations through out the year. Weddings, baptisms, and funerals are the most important "life-style rituals". When a person dies they are dressed there best and given a very long commemoration depending on how the religiosity and financial resources.
Your Thoughts, Comments, and/or Reaction:
Like many divitions of the Christian faith, the Moldovan Orthodox Church practices some of the same rituals. However there are some differnces when it come to the practice of certain rituals. Easter is practiced slightly different from others, with the visiting of kin in a graveyard. The preperation after a persons death is facinating. The long term commemorations can last nine months.
Article's Relation to "Culture"
Religion is a significant aspect to culture. Throughout the world religion influences how a society acts or doesnt act. With countires like Moldova, religious rituals can be very lengthy but connects an individual to their past family and unites the family presently. The over all society is largely influenced by religion.
