Brief Summary of the Article:
One third of the population is Roman Catholic, one third is Protestant, 16 percent is Muslim, and 18 percent believe in a local religion. Churches have influenced opportunities for education, employment, and social advancement. Religions help peolpe cope with pain, suffering, and defeat. Local religions believe in witchcraft and spirits. Ugandan Muslims make a pilgrimage to Mecca if they can. Local religions also believe that a spirit medium can speak to the dead to see if someone killed them.

It is fascinating that a country with so many religions can co-exist. It is interesting that the local religions believe that they can speak to the dead. Ugandan Muslims pilgrimage to Mecca, if possible for the individual, is astonishing to think of when it comes the finacial and physical travel for a religious purpose.

Religion is an important factor in culture. Around the world religion influence society. In countries like Uganda religious identity has economic and political implications. Religion also influences the traditions and customs of the people and society in a place.
