Brief Summary of the Article:
Militias and vigilantes have become features of the political scene in Uganda. After the formation of the state of Uganda, they have been trying to take control over the means of violence. However militais and vigilantes did not dissapear because they have they exist alongside the formal security structures. Vigilantes and militias serve as alternatives to state police to protect communities. These groups are funded by the government to create violence. Vigilantes however have also work alongside police to break-up demonstrations.
Your Thoughts, Comments, and/or Reaction:
After reading and analyzing this article it has come to my attention that the governments efforts to rid the country of militia and vigilanties will not be successful if they continue to use them as their own personal police, when wanted. I can some-what see this tactic working if they are trying to slowly deplete the larger militias and vigilantes, but it is showing their weaknesses to these groups as well as their fears.
